John Michael Moseley, Sr., “Mike”, a much-loved man known for his kindness, as well as a loving, caring, and humorous personality, left us on September 20, 2024, after a brief battle with cancer. Mike lived a life filled with love, dance, family, and humor and will be much missed by all who knew him.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother Jacqueline Tuttle Moseley and his father Theodore Gilliard Moseley, whom he loved deeply. Their door was always open, and they welcomed anyone into their home to enjoy delicious food. Jackie enjoyed cooking for Mike, the cloggers and friends anytime they dropped by. Her fried chicken and biscuits were often requested fare. Mike got his love of cooking from his mother, sharing what he cooked with anyone and everyone. He cooked with joy, and his friends and family were the grateful recipients.
Dancing and his time with the Green Grass Cloggers was a highlight of his life. Oh, the tales he could tell. He literally danced his way across America and the world!
After his dancing career, Mike was a carpenter which led him to a career with the National Park Service. Mike loved anything historical and worked in historical preservation. He traveled to many national parks to work on projects that included historic preservation.
Mike is survived by his son, John Michael Moseley, Jr. (Jennifer Diane); his stepdaughter, Paige Gantt Sillies (Steve) whom he raised from the age of 8 years old; and their mother, Jane Hand Moseley. He is also survived by his brother, Theodore G. Moseley (Mary Jeanette); his sister, Barbara Moseley; grandchildren, Greysen, Myles, Lydia, Vance; as well as nephews, John and Ted; and nieces, Mary Shaw and Clara.
