Slash Creek Bridge replacement project to begin Monday
Work to replace the aging Slash Creek Bridge on N.C. 12 in Hatteras Village will begin Oct. 7, per an update from the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
The $4.5 million project will replace the 68-year-old wooden structure with a two-span cored slab bridge. The work also includes drainage improvements and the leveling and resurfacing of Eagle Pass Road.
During the bridge replacement project, barricades will be placed at the north and south ends of the bridge, closing the road to all traffic. Through traffic will take a detour route along Eagle Pass Road, while local traffic will be permitted up to the bridge itself.
All work is expected to be complete by May of 2025, weather permitting. Motorists are advised to exercise caution, follow all posted signs, and adhere to the detour route around the work zone.
Do they realize that, if N.C. 12 is closed to all traffic for the bridge replacement AND they are leveling and resurfacing the detour, Eagle Pass Road, then there is no detour?
Do you really think they are doing both projects at same time?
Read the article again regarding detour..
Do you mean where it says, “The work also includes drainage improvements and the leveling and resurfacing of Eagle Pass Road?”
You give them too much credit to expect that they will re-open N.C. 12 before they start the Eagle Pass work. When I spoke with the people in charge two years ago, they were obliviously timing the work through the peak of the summer season.
Anybody keeping track of how many times they have to re-survey for this project because of years of delays?
I’ve lost count.
Glad they’re going to cut down those pesky old oak trees. Flatten the island!
