Dare County Water Department announces temporary water disruption for Hatteras Village
The Dare County Water Department has announced that the previously reported unplanned water disruption that was originally expected to affect water customers in Hatteras Village from Eagle Pass to the ferry dock has now been expanded to include all of Hatteras Village. Water service is currently expected to be restored by 6:30 p.m. today (Friday, November 8, 2024). This outage is necessary for contractors working to replace the Slash Creek Bridge on N.C. Highway 12 to connect the new water line.
Following the service restoration, a boil water advisory will be in effect for all customers within the affected area (all of Hatteras Village) until 7:30 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday, November 9, 2024). Customers are advised to boil all water used for human consumption—including drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, and making ice—or to use bottled water. Vigorous boiling for one minute should eliminate any potential contaminants.
Samples will be collected throughout the affected area to confirm water quality as soon as service is restored. The advisory will remain in effect until 7:30 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday, November 9, 2024). If there are any further issues, customers will be notified of a continued advisory.

Use bottled water?
No notice of the outage means that nobody had the opportunity to stock up on water, from the tap or bottled.
Seems to me that the contractor who caused the “unplanned water disruption” at the very least owes Hatteras residents some bottled water, not to mention the impact on local businesses – in particular, restaurants at their busiest time of the week.
