All anglers can fish in Anglers Club individual tournament
The Cape Hatteras Anglers Club invites residents and visitors to fish in its annual Bob Bernard Open Individual Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 5, along the beaches of Hatteras Island.
Now in its 58th year, the open individual tournament has been ongoing since 1958, the year after the start of the Anglers Club. The open tournament historically has occurred on the Saturday after the final day of the invitational team tournament. Approximately 100 anglers competed in last year’s individual tournament.
All participants must register at the Anglers Club in Buxton between 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, and 9 a.m. on Saturday, the day of the tournament. The Clubhouse will open at 7 a.m. Saturday for last minute registration. The entry fee is only $10 for adults, and free for youth and junior anglers through age 16. Judges for the invitational tournament that ends Friday also are invited to fish for free.
Fishing hours will be from 8 a.m. to noon, with the awards for the winning fish to be presented immediately after weigh-in ends at 1 p.m.
Anglers must fish only from the surf of Hatteras Island, anywhere from Ramp 23 south to within a half mile of Hatteras Inlet, and excluding a half mile on either side of Cape Point. No soundside fishing will be allowed.
Fish will be judged by weight between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday at the Clubhouse. Only fish that measure 11 inches or meet its listed species’ NCMF minimum length or slot size will be scored.
Frank and Fran’s tackle shop of Avon will provide the winners’ plaques and gift certificates.
