Continuing a wave of recent donations to Hatteras Island organizations, the North Carolina Beach Buggy Association (NCBBA) recently made a $500 donation to the Avon Volunteer Fire Department (VFD).
Hatteras Island’s seven villages are served by six all-volunteer fire departments that respond to all types of emergencies, assist with post-storm recovery operations, and host additional community programs throughout the year.
The 18-member Avon VFD has also introduced a number of recent events and initiatives to enhance the local community, such as the first-ever free dental and health clinic in January, and new community dinners that were launched during the holiday season.
Like all volunteer fire stations on Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands, the Avon VFD relies on volunteers to keep going strong, and to keep serving Hatteras Island residents and visitors. For more information on the Avon VFD, including upcoming events, visit their Facebook page.
About NCBBA
The NCBBA is a non-profit organization established in 1964 that is dedicated to the preservation of, and vehicular access to, the natural beach resources of the Outer Banks through conservation, a code of ethics for beach behavior, and by supporting local, state, federal officials, and other organizations dedicated to these same goals.
In addition to donations, NCBBA also holds multiple Adopt-A-Highway and Operation Beach Respect events throughout the year, which are initiatives that aim to clean the Hatteras Island beaches, as well as a stretch of N.C. Highway near the Marc Basnight Bridge.
