The Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge will host a public beach clean-up to coincide with Earth Day on Sunday, April 21, at 10 a.m.
The event is open to anyone who wants to help, and folks can meet at Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge Visitors’ Center north of Rodanthe at 14500 N.C. Highway 12, beginning at 10 a.m.
The beach clean-up is weather permitting, and participants are advised to wear comfortable clothes, sturdy shoes, and work gloves.
The Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1938 to provide nesting, resting, and wintering habitats for migratory birds, to provide habitat and protection for endangered and threatened species, and to provide opportunities for public enjoyment of wildlife and wildland resources.
The refuge is located on the north end of Hatteras Island between Oregon Inlet and Rodanthe, and attracts more than 370 species of visiting birds alone. For more information on the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge, visit https://www.fws.gov/refuge/pea-island.
