At the final meeting of the 2023 calendar year of the Dare County Tourism Board, five members whose terms are expiring were honored for their service to the board.

Lee Nettles, Outer Banks Visitors Bureau Executive Director, summarizes the latest report on occupancy and meals collections for the month of October in this month’s video recap.

According to Nettles, occupancy numbers may have been influenced in both September and October because of the number of Saturdays in each of those months compared to last year.

Nettles also said that there was no clear answer as to why there was a nearly 61 percent increase in gross meals collections compared to October 2022.

He also presents a preview of the Raw OBX campaign that targets outdoor enthusiasts that have a passion for birding, surfing, kite surfing and fishing.

And Nettles announced the first meeting of the 22-member Long Range Tourism Management Plan Special Committee will be held on January 10.
