First-ever 4 for the 4th Race will take place in Avon in July
Barrier Island Group (B.I.G.) is pleased to announce its first Hatteras Island event – “4 for the 4th” – a four-mile run/walk to kick off the Fourth of July weekend.
Originally scheduled for the morning of July 4, the race has been moved to July 3 in order to lessen the Independence Day burden on Dare County EMS services, and ensure the safety of all participants.
The run/walk will be held on Wednesday, July 3, at 7:00 a.m. at the soundside Kinnakeet Shores development in Avon. This event, (which is sure to become a new holiday tradition), is a family-friendly four-mile run or walk through the neighborhood with tree-lined streets and lakeside views. There will also be a “1776” (foot) fun run for children too young for the four-mile event.
Registration for the four-mile race includes an eco-friendly reusable cup for use on the course, and at the after party, a finishers’ 4th-themed wet towel, an incredible finisher medal, a holiday-themed soft style performance T-shirt a delicious breakfast post-race party.
Visit the B.I.G. website for the reveal of all the items noted above – eco-cup, towel, medals, T-shirt – which are coming soon.
Barrier Island Group serves the Outer Banks community by promoting healthy, active lifestyles and through financial support of community organizations. Hundreds are served by its various non-profit event participants.
Local nonprofits included in the July event are Hatteras Island Meals, OBX Buddies, and Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station, so it’s a perfect way to kick off the holiday weekend while helping the local island community.
B.I.G. is also now accepting sponsors for the July event and has numerous sponsor levels available. If you would like to be a part of this inaugural event, visit their website or contact barrierislandtom@gmail.com
