Registration now open for the 25th annual Wings Over Water Wildlife Festival
Registration is now open for the 2022 Wings Over Water Wildlife Festival, which is celebrating its 25th year in 2002, and which will be held from October 18-23, with a special Encore weekend on December 9-11.
After a two-year shutdown due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the festival, which consists of dozens of birding, paddling, photography, art, and natural history programs, is ready to host both new and repeat attendees.
Visitors can register now for a variety of events and programs held in October by visiting the festival’s website at https://www.wingsoverwater.org/.
A full list of events during the nearly weeklong event can be found online on the festival website as well. Sample activities and events include birding trips through the Pea Island National Wildlife refuge, expeditions to Ocracoke Island and local maritime forests, kayak tours, watercolor classes, and much more.
Wings Over Water is an annual refuge fundraising event sponsored by Coastal Wildlife Refuge Society (CWRS). CWRS is a non-profit group which exists to support regional national wildlife refuges. WOW, besides providing funds for educational grants to schools, is a part of many CWRS refuge support projects such as maintaining trails and signs and other refuge structures. Also, WOW helps CWRS provide volunteers and staff who are essential to the maintenance and operation of the regional national wildlife refuges visitor centers and refuges.
