BUXTON– Leighton A. Quidley, born in Buxton to the late John A. Quidley andRuth Quidley, died on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at the VeteransAdministration Hospital in Augusta, Ga. Mr. Quidley retiredfromthe United States Army after over 20 years and having served in theVietnam War. He was the recipient of many military awardsincluding the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, ArmyCommendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam CampaignMedal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, and Technical Medal 2ndClass (Vietnam). Mr. Quidley was a Freemason as well as amemberof the Scottish Rite and the Shrine. He retired from theDepartment of Veterans Administration after 20 years of service.
Amember of the Buxton United Methodist Church, Mr. Quidley is survivedby his loving wife, Grace L. Quidley of Augusta; daughter, Deborah(Quidley) Bates, of Alexandria, Va.; son, Michael L. Quidley, ofWoodbridge, Va.; his granddaughter, Kimberly A. Bates, of Alexandria,Va., and granddaughter, Victoria A. Quidley, of Manassas, Va. He waspredeceased by a son, Leighton A. Quidley, Jr.
A viewing with the family will be held at Twiford Island Chapel,Hatteras on Tuesday March 16, from 6 until 8 p.m. Mr.Quidley will be laid to rest at the Quidley Cemetery following a fullmilitary funeral at the Buxton United Methodist Church on Wednesday,March 17, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorialcontributionscan be made in his name to the American Heart Association.
Mr.Quidley was a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather, andfriend. He will be dearly missed.
