Mr. JosephAl Hodges,Sr., age 77, a resident of Pantego, N.C., diedMonday, May 3, 2010 at Pungo District Hospital in Belhaven, N.C.
Gravesideserviceswill be held at 11a.m. on Thursday, May 6, atOakdale Cemetery in Washington. A memorial service in celebration oflife will also be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 6, at St. JamesEpiscopal Church in Belhaven. Both of these services will be officiatedby the Rev. Randy Green.
Mr. Hodgeswas bornon April 14, 1933, to the late Johnnie Dewey Hodgesand Myrtis Vivian Harris Hodges. He was a 1952 graduate of Pantego HighSchool and continued his education at Western Carolina College,graduating in 1962. Mr. Hodges served his country in the United StatesArmy. He married the former Betsy Jane Long, who preceded him in death.Mr. Hodges was an industrial cooperative training teacher at WashingtonHigh School. Other than the passion he had for his family, Mr. Hodgeshad a passion to see his students be able to develop trade skills, sothey might do well and be productive members of society.
Mr. Hodgesissurvived by a son; Joseph Al Hodges, Jr. M.D. and wifeAlexis (Alex) Garretson Hodges of Hatteras; two sisters; MargaretHodges Kunkle and Erma Hodges Sadler; four grandchildren; AshleyChristine Hodges, Meredith Adelaide Hodges, Rebecca Caroline Hodges,and Joseph Al Hodges, III all of Hatteras.
In additionto hisparents and wife, Mr. Hodges was preceded in death by a brother;Johnnie Dewey Hodges, Jr. DDS.
The familywillreceive friends on Wednesday, May 5, from 6:30 until 8 p.m. at PaulFuneral Home of Belhaven.
