AVON– Clayton Tuttle Brothers Jr., 85, passed away at the Outer BanksHospital on Wednesday, July 7, 2010. Born in Wanchese, he wastheson of the late Clayton T. Brothers and the late Achsa WilliamsBrothers. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased byhiswife, Holland Brothers; a son, Clayton T. Brothers III, and infantHolland Brothers. Mr. Brothers proudly served in the UnitedStates Coast Guard and retired in 1962. He was a member ofSt.Johns United Methodist Church in Avon and was a past member of LittleGrove United Methodist Church in Frisco. He served as a layminister, and his knowledge of the Methodist ministry was impressiveand a source of inspiration to many who knew him.
Mr.Brothers is survived by his son, Eric Brothers and wife Andrea of Avon,two daughters, Sandrea Brothers of Washington state, and Verna Antonen(husband Tony), also of Avon. He is survived also by his fourgrandchildren, Clayton T. Brothers IV, Genevieve Denise Brothers,Jessica Sherwood, James Sherwood, and eight great-grandchildren.
Afuneral will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 10, at St. John’sUnited Methodist Church in Avon with Lay Pastor Pam Stoffel officiatingand Pastor Dwight Burrus assisting. Interment willimmediatelyfollow the church service at Cudworth Cemetery in Wanchese. Inaddition to floral tributes, donations can be made to St. John’s UnitedMethodist Church, P.O.
