SALVO — Johnny Burgess Hooper,65, diedFriday, Jan. 21, 2011, in Norfolk, Va. Mr. Hooper was born inNorfolk and was a retired contractor and commercialfisherman. Heattended Lifeboat Community Church and in his youth was a member ofClarks Bethel United Methodist Church. Johnny served at aScoutMaster for 15 years with Boy Scouts of America Troop 179 and Fire Chieffor Salvo Volunteer Fire Dept. He was a former president of Dare CountyEMS when it was an all-volunteer service.
He was the son of the late Edward Burgess Hooper and Zenovah CatherineO’Neal Hooper of Salvo and was the husband of Linda Torge Hooper of thehome.
Besides his wife and mother, surviving are two daughters, CassandraLinda Moore and husband Hal of Kill Devil Hills and Tiffany June Wycheand husband Brandon of Durham, N.C.; one son, Johnny B. Hooper II andwife Angel of Salvo; eight grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew, Ciera,Jacquelyn, Addie, Noah, Jonah and Luke; and sister-in-law, Paula Borum,and brothers-in-law, Mark Torge and Pete Torge.
A celebration of life will be in Liberty Christian Fellowship, Monday,Jan. 24, at 2 p.m. by Rev. Steve Simmons, Dwight Burrus, John Hobbs,David Daniels, and Jim Blise. Burial will be in the Hooper Cemetery inSalvo. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the FoodPantry of Lifeboat Community Church, P.O. Box 87, Salvo, NC27972. Friends may join the family for a time of visitationatLifeboat Community Church, Highway 12 in Salvo, Sunday from 7 until 9p.m.
