BUXTON — Bernice James Ballance, 65, died onSaturday, April 7, 2012 at the Avon Medical Center. Mr. Ballance,born in Elizabeth City, N.C., was a charter boat captain and a lifelongfisherman. He was a veteran who served in the U.S. Army, including twotours in Vietnam. He was the son of the late Loran H. and LucyGray Ballance and the grandson of the late Capt. Bernice R. and BuenaMidgett Ballance.
Mr. Ballance is survived by a daughter, Kala Marie Ballance of Buxton;a sister, Carolyn Ballance of Manteo; a nephew, Brent Brewer of NewBern; and a niece, Kristen Brewer of Morehead City. He is alsosurvived by a long-time friend, Laura Severson.
A memorial service will be held at Mr. Ballance’s home in Buxton onWednesday, April 11, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dwight Burrus officiating. Inlieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the NCWatermen’s Association, P.O. Box 536, Hatteras, NC 27943.
