BUXTON — Opal Foster Scarborough, 79, diedFriday, June 1, 2012 in Nags Head. Born in Hatteras, she was thedaughter of the late Hallas and Rosa Burrus Foster. She was a member ofthe Hatteras United Methodist Church and a homemaker.
Mrs. Scarborough is survived by her husband of 61 years, Raymond WilburScarborough; two daughters, Karla Jarvis and husband, Roger, ofHatteras and Rosa Scarborough and significant other, Cooper Linton, ofCary; five sons, Ray Scarborough and wife, Janet, of Corapeake, HalScarborough and wife, Juanita, of Avon, Mark Scarborough and wife,Suzi, of West Palm Beach, Fla., Kerry Scarborough and wife, Monica, ofBuxton, and Dale Scarborough and wife, Becki, of Snow Hill; a grandsonwho was raised in the house, Cristopher Scarborough, and wife, Katie,of Wilmington; one brother, Raymond “Bernie” Foster and wife, Cecilia,of Hatteras; 12 other grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Shewas preceded in death by a son, Virgil Wayne Scarborough, and abrother, Desmond Foster.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 5, at 1 p.m. atHatteras United Methodist Church by the Rev. Cory Oliver and the Rev.Dwight Burrus. Burial will be in the Scarborough Cemetery in Avon. Thefamily will receive friends and relatives at Twiford Funeral Home,Hatteras on Monday from 6 until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorialdonations may be made to the Hatteras Community Preschool, c/o HatterasUnited Methodist Church, P.O.
