ANNAPOLIS,Md. – Mary Joyce Havard, 86, passed away at home on Aug. 25, 2013,surrounded by her family. Raised in West Pittston, PA., Mary moved tothe Washington, D.C., area in 1950 with her husband and began workingfor the director of the Medical Society of Washington D,C. Mary laterworked as a research assistant for the editor of The Journal ofInvestigative Dermatology, a personal secretary for the formerPresident of NBC and Cabinet Secretary to President Lyndon B. Johnson,and an executive assistant to the Deputy Director of the CentralIntelligence Agency, and she was a member of Barbara Bush’s personalWhite House staff.
Mary is survived by her beloved husband of63 years, Harris William Havard; daughter Joyce of Annapolis, son David(and wife Sherry Bell) of Hatteras, N.C., son Donald (and wife Joy) ofCrofton, Md., and daughter Stephanie of Annapolis. Mary was the proudand loving grandmother to David Jr., Kyle, Justin, Jamie, Calvin,Haley, and Conor and great-grandmother to Dominic. Her niece, Jane, andher nephews, James, Joseph, Paul and Robert, also survive her.
Marywill be laid to rest in the Columbarium at Arlington National Cemeterylater this year. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorialservice at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22, at Calvary United MethodistChurch, 301 Rowe Boulevard, Annapolis. A celebration of her life willfollow the service.
