AVON– Elizabeth Gray Gaskins, “Libby,” 81, of Avon passed away on Feb. 1,2014. Born March 13, 1932 in Patchogue, N.Y., to the late Ellis AGray Sr. and Caroline Rowland Gray, she moved with her family at theage of 2 to her father’s home, Kinnakeet. Libby graduatedas Valedictorian of her class from the Avon School in 1949. Shewas married to Hatteras native, Warren O. Gaskins Sr., in June of thefollowing year. As a Coast Guard family, they moved often,finally settling for three decades in Chesapeake, Va., before movingback to Kinnakeet in 1995.
Libby held the integral position ofmatriarch of the Gaskins Family and performed her duties as such withstrength and grace. She was an active member of St. Johns UnitedMethodist Church and was co-founder and manager of The Gaskins Galleryand Hair by the Sea from 1992 until 2013. Throughout her life,Libby enjoyed few things more than a good day shopping.
Elizabethis survived by her husband, Warren O. Gaskins, Sr.; daughter, SheilaCrowe and husband Ronald Crowe; son, Warren O. Gaskins, Jr. anddaughter in-law, Denise Gaskins; grandchildren, Carrie and husband DonDilworth, Warren (Tater) and wife Jennifer Gaskins, Ryan and wifeTiffany Meekins, Antoinette and husband Bryan Mattingly, and Amanda andhusband Jeremy Tucker. She is also survived by 12great-grandchildren, Olivia, Foster, Sumner, Liam, Ruby, Jack,Cheyanne, Jane, Jackie Lynn, Libby Ann, Thomas and Taylor; brothers andsisters, Mary Lou Gray; Ellis A. Gray, Sr.; John D. Gray; and CherylGray McDonald; lifelong best-friend June Jeanette and a large extendedfamily.

Afuneral service will be held in St. Johns United Methodist Church onTuesday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. Visitation will be held for friends andfamily from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday evening at the church. Elizabeth will be laid to rest in the Ellis A. Gray Family BurialGround.
