NAGSHEAD — Douglas Ayers Remaley, 67, died on Sept. 6, 2014 at The OuterBanks Hospital. Born in Baltimore, MD., he was the son of the lateClarence and Mildred Atherton Remaley. Mr. Remaley served his countrywith the Air National Guard. He started his public safety career as apolice officer with the Anne Arundel County Police Department beforejoining the ranks of the Annapolis Fire Department, where he served asa lieutenant and past president of the Annapolis ProfessionalFirefighters Local 1926. He moved to the Outer Banks of North Carolina,where he served as Fire Marshal and the first career Fire Chief of theNags Head Fire Department. He retired as the Dare County Fire Marshaland formerly served on the Nags Head Board of Commissioners. Hewas a member of St. Andrews by the Sea Episcopal Church.
Dougis survived by his wife, Debra Wohlford Remaley; two sons, Douglas M.Remaley and his wife, Debra, of Annapolis, Md., and Dustin M. Remaleyand his wife, Diane, of Washington, D.C.; and three grandchildren,Douglas, Brian, and Kyle Remaley, and he was an uncle to Kim Viesinsand Deborah Hunsicker. Besides his parents, he is predeceased bya sister, Patricia Remaley Hunsicker.
The family will receivefriends and relatives at St. Andrews by the Sea Episcopal Church onFriday, Sept. 12, from 7 until 9 p.m. A memorial service will be heldat the church at 11 a.m. at on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014 with the Rev.Phillip R. Glick officiating.
