GladysCharles Peele, 100, died on Feb. 9, 2015. She was born in Washington,N.C., on Feb. 8, 1915 to H.B. Charles and Gladys Chapman Charles andgrew up in the Pitt County town of Grifton. She received hermusic and education degrees from Atlantic Christian College in 1934,where she was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority.
Gladystaught in the Elm City Schools until age 70, then taught Adult BasicEducation at Wilson Community College until her retirement at 85. She later lived in Reidsville, N.C., and Frisco before moving to SpringArbor of the Outer Banks in Kill Devil Hills.
Predeceased by herhusband, Edward Peele, a sister, Alleen Charles Mc Donald, and brotherHarry B. Charles, she is survived by her son Charles Peele (Susan) ofFrisco and two grandchildren, Allen Peele (Colby) of Arden, N.C., andJennifer Pace (Joshua) of Denver, Colo. She was blessed withthree great-grandchildren — Wyatt, Marin, and Elliott.
Gladys was an accomplished piano player, pastry chef, an avid card player, and a loyal Duke basketball fan.
