BUXTON– Jeanette “Janet” Gray Finnegan, 102, died on Tuesday, March 10, 2015at her home. A native of Buxton, she was the daughter of the lateCharles Poole Gray and Odessa Scarborough Gray. Janet attended EastCarolina University, received her undergraduate degree from OldDominion University and her master’s degree from William and Mary. Shethen served as the principal for Suburbon Park School, Little CreekElementary and Sewells Point Elementary. She also worked as theassistant personnel director of Norfolk City Schools.
Janet issurvived by a daughter, Jeanette Gray Finnegan Torok; a son, MichaelPhillip Finnegan; a brother, Thomas Benjamin Gray; five grandchildren,and 13 great -grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she waspreceded in death by her husband, William Peter Finnegan; a son,William Peter Finnegan, Jr.; two sisters, Eleanor Wilson Gray and IvaOdessa Gray McAden; four brothers, Charles Fatio Gray, WallaceRoosevelt Gray, Herbert Curtis Gray and Jack Stewart Gray.
Afuneral service will be held on Saturday, March 14, at 2 p.m. at BuxtonUnited Methodist Church with Drew Pullen officiating. The family willreceive friends and relatives at the church at 6 p.m. Friday evening.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Janet GrayFinnegan Scholarship Fund, c/o Yadkin Bank, PO Box 770, Avon, NC 27915.
