OCRACOKE — Albert Lavon Anderson “Big Andy”, 96, passed awaypeacefully at his home on Sept. 19, 2015. He was born onNov. 29, 1918 to the late Albert and Mabel Anderson of Frankfort,Ind. Albert joined the United States Coast Guard as a young manand was stationed at Ocracoke, where he met and married the love of hislife, Mary Elizabeth Styron Anderson. After he left the CoastGuard, Albert and Mary were married on Nov. 24, 1945 and moved to hishometown of Frankfort, where they resided until he retired from hissuccessful farming career in 1993.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, who passed away on Nov. 26,2007. Albert and Mary did not have children of their own, but issurvived by his nephew, Edward C. O’Neal Jr., and wife, Stella O’Neal,of Ocracoke, who he considered his own children. “Big Andy” wasmuch more than an uncle to us, and his death has left an empty place inour family. He is also survived by numerous other nieces,nephews, and friends. The family also acknowledges thefriendship, love and support given to him over the last eight years byLoretta “Annie” Mann of Scranton, N.C., and the last year by AraceliGonzalez “Cheli” of Washington, N.C.
Funeral services honoring the life of Albert Anderson will be held onWednesday, Sept. 23, at 2 p.m. at the Ocracoke United MethodistChurch. The church will be open for viewing beginning at 12noon. He will be buried at the Ocracoke Community Cemetery.
