AVON — Celestial “Maxton” Sumner Scarborough Jr., 85, died on Tuesday,June 21, 2016, at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center. A native of DareCounty, he was the son of the late Celestial Sumner Scarborough andSudie Peele Gray Scarborough. Maxton served his country honorably withthe United States Coast Guard retiring as a boatswain mate. He thenwent on to retire as a supervisor with the NCDOT- Ferry Division andwas a former chairman of the Dare County Republican Party.
Maxton is survived by his wife, Rose Price Scarborough; four daughters,Karen Midgette of Buxton, Marilyn Bernauer of Morehead City, AmyScarborough of Avon, Candy Quidley of Buxton; and preceded in death byhis daughter, Lori Younce. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; andeight great-grandchildren. Along with his parents and daughter, Maxtonwas preceded in death by three sisters, Lillian Nardoci, Anges Maceda,and Alma Gray; and two brothers, Ralph and Orville Scarborough.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, at Faith LifeWorship Center with Rev. Bryan Gray officiating. Private burial willtake place at the Scarborough family cemetery. The family will receivefriends and relatives Friday evening at the church from 6 until 8 p.m.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Faith LifeWorship Center, P.O.
