ELIZABETHCITY — Berle Willard Wilson, formerly of Frisco, 77, went home to bewith his Lord on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017. He is rejoicing with God,fishing with Jesus, and singing in that heavenly choir.
Berlelived and experienced life; he just didn’t exist. He traveled the EastCoast for 16 years selling and managing large-scale irrigation systems,water works equipment, sewage and water pump manufacturing equipment,and water treatment products. He spent time in Saudi Arabia teachingcitizens how to grow food in sandy conditions with irrigation.
CaptainBerle’s passion was fishing the Gulf Stream waters off Hatteras as acharter boat captain for 25 years. He was a long-time member of theHatteras Harbor Charter Boat Association and was named Captain of theYear in 2001. He provided his customers with years of memorableexperiences and plenty of fish tales.
Hefished with various mates over the years, but his best mate of all washis first Boykin Spaniel, Bridgette, who climbed the ladder to thebridge of the boat and fished with him daily. Bridgette was the bestweather forecaster ever. If she sat in the marina parking lot andrefused to board the boat, you knew it was going to be a rough day atsea!
Heloved duck hunting, dove hunting, doing anything outdoors and justbeing around God’s gift of Nature. He also loved music, singing,theater productions, wood carving, and painting. He was a trustingsoul, took joy in his surroundings, and loved his family and friendsdearly. He was a proud Eagle Scout, member of Order of the Arrow,and served his country/state through the Virginia Army National Guard.
Joininghim in Heaven one day will be his wife, Cathy; son, David of Frisco;grandchildren, Andrea and Simon, and his beloved Boykins, Molly andGracie. His extended family includes stepsons, Coby Jones of Bracey andBen Jones of Williamsburg, and stepdaughter Jenny Rebecca Jones ofHarrisonburg and their families.
He was a member of Evangelical Methodist Church.
Amemorial service celebrating his life will be held Saturday, Jan. 7, at1 p.m. in the EMC Family Life Center. In lieu of flowers, donations maybe made to the EMC Music Ministry, 820 Okisko Road, Elizabeth City, NC27909.
Following his wishes, his ashes will be scattered over the Gulf Stream at a later date.
