OCRACOKE- William “Billy” Potter Garrish, Jr., 74, of Ocracoke, NC died onThursday, April 6, 2017 at Peak Resources – Outer Banks in Nags Head. Anative of Ocracoke Island, he was the son of the late Doris Lee HowardGarrish and William P. Garrish, Sr.
After graduating from Ocracoke School, Billy enlisted with the UnitedStates Coast Guard serving his country honorably in Viet Nam beforeretiring. He would later retire from his second career with theNational Park Service.
Billy was a member of Ocracoke United Methodist Church, Ocracoke Lodge #747 AF&AM, Scottish Rite, and the Sudan Temple.
Billy is survived by his wife, Agnes Marie Garrish; sister, Merian G.Hoggard; nephew, Van O’Neal and wife, Julie; niece, Kathy O’Neal andhusband, David; great-nephews, Fletcher O’Neal, Eric Williams, andRonnie O’Neal III; great-niece, Rachel O’Neal; and sevengreat-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, April 14, 2017 atOcracoke United Methodist Church with Pastor Richard Bryantofficiating. The family will receive friends following the service inthe church fellowship hall.
