MANTEO– James Flora Midgett, 76, of Manteo, passed away Friday, February 23,2018 after a brief illness. He was born March 29, 1941 in Rodanthe, NCto Margaret Frances Cuthrell (Midgett) of Washington,NC and Warren Jerome Midgett of Salvo, NC. James was an activemember of Manteo Faith Baptist Church.
Inaddition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, EdwardJerome (E.J.) Midgett, Larry Lee Midgett and sisters, Elaine MidgettDaniels and Linda Midgett Bright.
Jamesis survived by a son, Steven Midgett of New York state, and brothersDonald Midgett (Dianne) of Rocky Mount and Anthony Welch Midgett(Carol) of Fredericksburg, Va., as well as many grandchildren, niecesand nephews.
Jamesspent most of his career as a carpenter and truck driver for severalconstruction companies in North Carolina and Virginia and retired hometo Dare County in 2007 to enjoy his real passion of fishing. Hewas an enthusiastic participant of the Dare County Center seniorprograms in Manteo.
Jameswill be remembered as a gentle man with a big heart, always ready witha smile and a joke to brighten your day. He leaves behindhis extended family, cousins Cedric Grgurich and Joey Grgurichand wife Louise of Manteo and treasured friends Joyce Bell, DollyRush, Sandy Scarborough, Officer Doug Moore, and others toonumerous to be acknowledged here.
Aninformal memorial service will be held Thursday, March 1 at 6:30 p.m.at Faith Baptist Church, Burnside Rd., Manteo. Pastor Steve Rhodes willofficiate. All are invited to join James’ family in theFellowship Hall for a casual gathering over light refreshments.
