It is with great sadness that the family of Audrey Joan Mathews Esposito, aged 82 of Southern Shores, formerly of Randolph, NJ announces her sudden passing on Sunday, February 25, 2024.
Audrey touched many lives in her long journey through life. She was a dedicated elementary school teacher for 32 years in the New Jersey public school system. She and her husband Sal raised their three daughters in Randolph, NJ where they were close with many friends and family. After retiring from teaching, she and Sal retired to Southern Shores. It did not take long for Audrey to get involved and make an impact on the community. Audrey and Sal enjoyed many years as members at the Duck Woods Country Club and she was actively involved in the League of Woman Voters. Anyone that had the privilege of knowing Audrey knew she loved to cook, enjoyed spending time in her garden, reading with her book club, and playing bridge with friends. Audrey had always said that moving to Southern Shores was the best decision that she and Sal made.
Audrey or Audie as she was lovingly called by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Salvatore Anthony Esposito. Those left to cherish Audrey’s many deeds and memories include their three daughters: Carolyn Moschella (Tony), Jennifer Lage (Christopher), Kristine Whalon (Todd). She will be fondly remembered by her seven grandchildren: Anthony, Madison, Dante, Nicholas, Madeleine, Carter and Alex, and three great-grandchildren: Mason, Amelia, Vincenzo; by her sister Annette Venhorst and nephew Matthew Venhorst.
Audrey will be forever remembered by extended family and a large circle of friends.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 7 at 11:00 am at All Saints Episcopal Church, 40 Pintail Trail, Southern Shores, with Rev. David Feyrer.
Audrey donated to many causes that supported the democratic process, Native American tribes, global relief services, environmental conservation and military veterans to name a few. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Audrey’s name to continue the support of equity and equality for all.
Condolences to the family may be expressed via the online register at www.gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with arrangements.
