MANTEO — Catherine Schwallenberg Corleto, 87, died suddenly Monday, January 27, 2020 in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital surrounded by family. Catherine grew up in Roanoke, Virginia. She moved to Norfolk, VA at the age of 16 to attend DePaul Hospital School of Nursing where she then graduated with her RN degree. She met and married her husband Louis of 50 years where they raised nine children. Catherine was an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish for over 15 years.
She relocated with her family to Turnersville, New Jersey where she was an active member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church for over 20 years. Upon retirement, she and her husband moved to Nags Head, NC and became active members of the local parish, Holy Trinity. After her husband’s death she moved to Manteo, NC where she remained active in social clubs, volunteer work and community activities until her death.
She was preceded in death by Louis Patrick Corleto (Husband), Patrick N. Corleto (Son); Michael B. Corleto (Son). She is survived by Mary C. Kelley (Kevin) of Manteo, NC; Beth A. Arseneau (Ron) of Arlington, TX; Anne S. Corleto of Kill Devil Hills NC; Sarah P. DiDomenico (Steve) of Mt. Laurel NJ; Louis P. Corleto Jr. (Liddy) of Tennessee, Ellen M. Corleto (Joseph) of Westmont NJ and Joseph D. Corleto (Holly) of Marlton NJ. She is also survived by her brother Charles N. Schwallenberg of Cloverdale, VA, 24 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren who love their Granny very much.
A visitation and viewing will be held Thursday, January 30, 2020, from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm at Twiford Funeral Home in Manteo. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Friday, January 31st at 11:00 am at Holy Trinity by the Sea Catholic Chapel in Nags Head, NC by Father John Hanley, osfs. Burial will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, February 1st at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Norfolk, VA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or local food banks. The family would like to thank all of the wonderful family and friends for their unending love and support.
