KILL DEVIL HILLS — Darrell Owen Tyson, 52, completed his earthbound journey in the evening of July 6, 2020. He was surrounded by friends and people he loved.
Darrell spent 30 years working side-by-side with his loyal friend and colleague Larry Rust at Rust Plumbing. He spent weekends working with a young crew, he said, “were some hard-working plumbers”, with Major League Plumbing. Darrell was proud of his professional colleagues. He plumbed for friends and friends of friends and he was one of the hardest working Plumbers on the beach. Unquestionably, Darrell’s handiwork can be found all over the Outer Banks.
Darrell had a beautifully rich singing voice and spent his high school years in Chorus. He often serenaded whoever was in front of him and amazed folks that heard him sing. He was quick with a smile and even quicker with a laugh and loved nothing as much as he loved to make people happy. He never met a stranger and left an indelible mark wherever he went.
Raised in Pea Ridge, NC, a small village outside of Creswell, to a working-class family, this small town boy lived his dreams large, loud, and with a lot of love. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; Marvin and Gladys Tyson; brother, David Dougherty; and sister, Diane Dougherty.
Darrell is survived by his brother, Darrin Dougherty (Steva) of Jacksonville, FL; sister, Heidi Boucher (Marc) of Landers, CA; nieces, Samantha McCuiston of Kill Devil Hills, Angela Love of Vero Beach, FL and Julie Fox of Indian Harbor Beach, FL; and a host of extended relatives and close friends.
Join us Saturday, July 11, 2020 from 1 PM until late in the backyard at the Blue Crab Tavern as we share our memories and raise a toast to wish him Godspeed on that stairway to heaven.
