January 25, 1959 – October 31, 2024
Elaine Jordan sadly passed away at the age of 65, surrounded by her family in the United Kingdom. Surviving is Julie (Sister), Steve (Brother-in-law), Samantha (Neice), and Bradley (Nephew). Elaine was the eldest of two children of Jean and Wally and was born in Chatham, Kent, England, and grew up in a small town called Northfleet.
Elaine’s mum instilled in Elaine and her sister Julie a value and love for education. Elaine went on to become fluent in three foreign languages: French, German, and Italian.
At age 23, Elaine made the brave decision to move on her own to New York, where she got a job as an au pair. She later started working for Lord Thompson and, during her time there, met some interesting characters, including Robert Maxwell and Donald Trump. At age 25, Elaine married Doug Boyden in New Jersey. Sadly, he passed away when he was only 36, leaving her a widow at a young age.
A couple of years later, she went on to meet Joseph Jordan, who became her soulmate. They moved to the Outer Banks, Manteo, NC, in 1999. From her first visit to the Outer Banks, specifically Manteo, she fell in love with the town and community spirit. Elaine worked as a paralegal at a law firm in Kill Devil Hills from early 2000 until 2009. Tragically, in 2009, Joe fell ill and sadly passed away unexpectedly.
Several years later, Elaine started working for the Dare County Health Department. This was not just a job for Elaine; she truly loved working there and made some wonderful friends who became like family. Among her many accomplishments at the health department, she was most proud of learning CPR and running training courses to help people help others.
When the Covid pandemic hit, Elaine decided to move to Orlando into a senior community environment. She made many friends in the community and enjoyed the facilities and driving around in her golf cart, but she never truly settled there as her heart and soul were always in Manteo. Unfortunately, less than 2 years after moving to Orlando, Elaine was diagnosed with cancer.
Elaine went through the toughest of chemotherapy before and after having major surgery, which, for a short period of time, gave some hope to her. During this time, after a visit from Julie and Steve, Elaine decided to move back to the UK in 2024 to spend time with her family. Unfortunately, shortly after moving to England, Elaine fell ill again and succumbed to her illness. Her wish was to be repatriated to Manteo to be laid to rest with her husband, Joe, and her family is making this come true for her.
Elaine was a wonderful sister, aunt, and friend to all who came to know her; she was always smiling, and she loved her languages, from speaking fluent German, French, and Italian, making her a great communicator. Her smile and laughter could easily fill and warm any room. She was sharp-witted, loving, and a gift to all who knew her. She is missed beyond measure.
A funeral service will be held in honor of Elaine at Twiford Colony Chapel, 500 Budleigh St, Manteo, NC, at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, with burial to follow at Manteo Cemetery. Friends who would like to pay their respects are more than welcome to attend.
