MANTEO — Kenneth William Pekrun, Sr., born on August 29, 1934, in Cleveland, Ohio, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2024, in Manteo, North Carolina, at the age of 90.
Kenneth was a man who embraced the great outdoors, finding joy in both hunting and wood carving. He was a dedicated member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and actively participated in his community as a former mason in the Cleveland area. His commitment to service extended to his role as a volunteer fireman with the Bainbridge Township Volunteer Fire Department. In North Carolina, he was a founding member of the Outer Banks Gun Club and the Dare Blade Society, reflecting his lifelong passion for skillful craftsmanship and camaraderie.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Ellen Hanusik Pekrun; daughters, Randi Pekrun Walker (Scott) and Laura Hanusik McDaniels (Mark); sons, Kenny Pekrun (Pam), Joey Hanusik, Eddie Hanusik (Donna), and Matt Hanusik (Morgan). His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Melissa Woodard (Jordan), Benjamin Hanusik, Ethan Hanusik, JT McDaniels, Gavin Hanusik, Colin Hanusik, and Abigail Hanusik, as well as his great-grandchildren, William and Daniel Woodard.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Wanamaker Pekrun, and his parents, Olga Nyary Pekrun and Raymond Paul Pekrun.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Kenneth at a memorial service to be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 6, 2024, at Twiford Colony Chapel in Manteo, with Rev. Ken Mann officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and following the service in the fellowship hall at Manteo Baptist Church.

Kenneth will be remembered for his passion for life, his craftsmanship, and his unwavering love for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, community, and dedication that will be cherished by all who knew him.
