October 22, 1927 – September 16, 2019
KILL DEVIL HILLS –Lois was welcomed into the arms of her loving Savior on September 16, 2019. She was born to Dr. L. Schwindt (deceased) and Pauline Millington Schwindt (deceased) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Amongst her life’s accomplishments, Lois was most proud of her five children: Nancy (married to Harold Lehman), Drew (deceased, married to Carol Hesse), Scott (married to Sherry Hesse), Sally (married to Joe Hessnice), and Jane (married to Brian Miller).
Her first job was supporting the Hagerstown Police Department as a dispatcher. Then for many decades, Lois worked for the Hagerstown Department of Social Services before retiring to Florida. There, she enjoyed warm winters, early-bird specials, and friends at Peace Mennonite Church.
In 2004, Lois earned her Bachelor of Arts from Eckard College in one of her passions- Creative Writing. She proved that you were never too old to overcome your fear of driving over the Tamiami Bridge or final exams.
In addition to her four living children, she leaves behind eleven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
A celebration of Lois’ life will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, September 21, 2019, at the Manteo waterfront gazebo with lunch to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Spring Arbor of The Outer Banks Employee Christmas Fund, 803 Bermuda Bay Blvd, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948.
