Mary Jo C. Murden passed away on February 27, 2020 in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, after a long battle with dementia. She was born on February 20, 1933 to Felix and Margaret Caprio in Norfolk, Virginia.
A graduate of Granby High School and local dance celebrity, she was the artistic director and lead instructor of the Caprio Dance Studio, entertained troops with the USO, and performed in and produced local variety shows. After relocating to Northern Virginia, she established Roman Designs, a successful interior design firm.
She married Joseph B. Murden Jr. on September 8, 1956. The couple raised 3 children, Leslie, Kimberly, and Joseph. Mary Jo and her husband Joseph retired and relocated to Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, in 1996.
She is survived by her husband of sixty-three years, Joseph, her children Leslie and Joseph, her granddaughter Courtney, her great-grandchildren Noah and Emma Grace, and her beloved cat Sweetie. Mary Jo is preceded in death by her daughter, Kimberly and her granddaughter, Melissa.
A funeral mass will be held at Holy Redeemer by the Sea Catholic Church in Kitty Hawk on March 13, 2020 at 10:00 am. Friends and family are welcome to join the Murdens at Duck Woods Country Club following the mass.
