SOUTHERN SHORES — Norm St. Laurent went home to His Lord and Savior during the early hours of Thursday, September 26, 2024. Born to Norman and Margaret (Peg) St. Laurent in Methuen, Massachusetts, Norm was the second child and oldest boy of four children. He is survived by his older sister Donna Meehan and his younger brother William St. Laurent; his brother Richard St. Laurent, predeceased him, as did his parents. Norm, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, is survived by his wife Lynanne St. Laurent of Southern Shores, NC; his sons Mark (Carie) St. Laurent of Seneca, SC, and Tim (Alisa) St. Laurent of Greenville, SC; his daughter Kathy (Kiz) Welling of Canberra, Australia; seven grandchildren – Garrett, Noelle, Paitten, Ava, Kylie, and Carly St. Laurent and Rosie Welling; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Norm grew up in New England and graduated from Rice High School in Burlington, VT, with the distinction of being the Most Valuable Athlete his senior year in 1961. He attended West Point Military Academy and graduated from Notre Dame University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1971. He also received a Master’s in Education from the University of Southern California.
Norm retired as a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army after twenty-one years of service. Among his many military awards were the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with Valor, and the Purple Heart. As well as numerous postings in the U.S., Norm also served in Vietnam and at NATO in Belgium before retiring. After his military retirement, he worked as a project manager for Eastern Computers and Computer Science Corporation. In 2007 he and Lynanne retired to their home on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
Norm was a faithful member of Holy Redeemer By-the-Sea Catholic Church in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, where he served as the Navigator for the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.
Norm will be dearly missed. His quirky sense of humor and constant teasing were balanced with compassion and a soft heart. Norm’s soft heart led him to take in “strays,” some human (as several of Mark and Tim’s friends will testify) and some four-legged (Lexie and Marco). Years of happy memories filled with love and laughter will be treasured by all who knew him.
Norm’s love for his family was surpassed only by his love for the Lord Jesus Christ.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:30 am on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Holy Redeemer By-the-Sea Catholic Church by Rev. John F. Hanley, osfs. Following the mass, all are invited to join the family for a reception at Kitty Hawk Baptist Church. Burial will take place in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date, with details to be announced.
