OCRACOKE — Ronald Thomas O’Neal, Jr., 72, of Ocracoke, NC, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2024. Born on September 21, 1951, in Morehead City, NC, Ronald lived a life full of dedication and passion both on and off the waters that he loved so dearly.
After attending College of the Albemarle, Ronald pursued his passion for the ocean as a Charter Boat Captain. He was the proud owner of the “Miss Kathleen,” guiding countless fishing trips and sharing his love for the waters around Ocracoke. Ronald excelled as a basketball player through high school and college, demonstrating his dedication and athleticism on the court.
A devoted member of the Ocracoke United Methodist Church, Ronald was deeply rooted in his community and cherished the relationships he built there.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Mildred Garrish O’Neal and Ronald T. O’Neal, Sr; and his brother, Ben O’Neal.
Ronald leaves behind his cherished wife, Kathleen Brophy O’Neal, and his beloved son, Ryan Thomas O’Neal, along with numerous friends and extended family who will miss him deeply.
In keeping with Ronald’s wishes, there will be no service at this time. Memorial donations may be made in his honor to the Ocracoke Working Watermen’s Association, reflecting his deep connection to the maritime community.
Ronald Thomas O’Neal, Jr.’s legacy will endure in the hearts of those who knew him and in the waters he navigated with such expertise and care.
