MANTEO — Samuel William Pledger, age 76, of Manteo, NC went to his Heavenly Home on Thursday, December 5, 2019.
Born on December 2, 1943 in Portsmouth VA, he was the son of Floyd Richard Pledger and Edna Ruth Gaskins Pledger.
He is survived by his wife Rita Lewark-Pledger of the home. Also left to cherish his memory are his daughters; Sabrina Crane (David), Sherry Meador (Rusty), Julia Meadows (Matt) and son Greg Basham, grandchildren; Mitch Meador, Mariah Meador, Chevy Basham, Samantha Crane, Elijah Meadows and Benjamin Meadows, brothers; Richard Pledger, Fredrick Pledger, his sister Virginia Ligon, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Brian Pledger and Kenneth Pledger.
Sammy enjoyed a long career in law enforcement including the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Border Patrol, Manteo Police Department, Dare County EMS helicopter pilot, and he held several positions at the Dare County Sheriff’s Office including the Civil and Court Division, Criminal Investigative Division and the Detention Center Commander.
A celebration of life will be held at Twiford Colony Chapel, 500 Budleigh St, Manteo on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at 12:00 pm. The family will receive friends at the home on 638 Skyco Rd, Manteo following the service.
