Thomas “Tom” Michael Doak passed away on the morning of March 1, 2025, at the age of 68. He was born on November 22, 1956 in Norfolk, VA. Tom worked as a commercial fisherman for most of his life fishing all along the eastern coast from ports of New Bedford, MA, Newport, RI, Virginia, and Wanchese, NC.
Tom grew up in Virginia Beach, VA, and graduated from Kempsville High School in 1975. After high school, he moved to the Outer Banks and found work in the commercial fishing business which he loved doing the most. In his youth, he also lived in Long Beach, CA, where his father was stationed in the US Navy. Tom also lived in Seminole, FL; Boston, MA; Newport, RI, and New Hampshire, where he did lots of skiing and hiking
Tom was a good father, uncle, brother and even a friend to many who knew him. He loved to spend time with his friends and family. Tom loved being out on the ocean, bringing in the catch and even relaxing on the beaches of the Outer Banks. He liked bodysurfing in the ocean and he also liked reading books and watching movies. Some movies would make him cry.
Tom was preceded in death by his father, Captain Joseph Doak, Jr. and mother, Elizabeth Jane Holt. He is survived by his son and only child, Dylan Thomas Doak-Wolff of Kill Devil Hills, his brothers; Joseph Doak, III of Wanchese NC, Peter Doak of Seminole, FL, and Daniel Doak of Gibsonton, FL; and his sisters, Mary-Ellen Doak of Largo, FL and Elizabeth Hipp of Seminole, FL. Also surviving are three nieces and one nephew.
Tom will be greatly missed by his family and friends near and far. He will always be remembered for his camaraderie and generosity. Tom worked hard and played hard throughout his life but in the end, he was a loving father who was proud of his son. No services are planned at this time.
