WAVES — Walter “Skip” Marshall Wells, Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2024, in Waves, North Carolina, at the age of 83. Born on August 9, 1941, in Beltsville, Maryland, Skip lived a life full of love, adventure, and fulfillment.
Skip was proud of his lifetime achievement serving in the United States Army in the 82nd Airborne Division. A life member of the Dale City Volunteer Fire Department, Prince William Co Fire Board, and a founder of the Dale City Sports Club. Skip was a life member of NCBB Association. He enjoyed saltwater fishing, and passed his passion on to his children, and grandchildren. Skip was affectionately known as the mayor of Wimble Shores North to his friends, and neighbors.
After dedicating many years of hard work, he retired from the Goodyear Tire Company. In 1966, he first visited the Outer Banks, a place that captured his heart and dreams. In 1998, he fulfilled those dreams by moving there permanently.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Marshall Wells, Sr. and Kathrine Wells. Skip leaves behind the love of his life, Sandra Wells, with whom he shared 59 wonderful years of marriage. He is also survived by his two sons, Jeff (Dana) and Eric Sr.; his cherished grandchildren, Daniel, Eric Jr., and Rebecca; and his great-grandchildren, Cheyenne, Eric III, Michael, Ervin, Ellyott, Bailey, Kyra, Blake, and Ariyah. Skip’s siblings, Mike and DeeDee, along with countless brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins, will fondly remember him.
Skip successfully donated his body to The Experience Anatomy Foundation in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Skip’s legacy of love, kindness, and joy will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the gentle waves and endless horizon of the Outer Banks he so dearly loved.
A celebration of Skip’s life will take place at a later date, allowing family and friends to gather and honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fair Haven United Methodist Church in Rodanthe, NC, where Skip was a devoted member.
