Reserve Cape Lookout Cabins Starting Jan. 6

Visitors can begin making reservations starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021, to stay at Great Island Cabin Camp at Cape Lookout National Seashore.

Great Island Cabin Camp, which is on the South Core Banks just off the mainland, will be open for campers Friday, March 12, 2021, through the night of Saturday, Nov. 27, 2021.  The camp can only be reached by personal boats or by the vehicle ferry.

Visitors can make reservations online at www.recreation.gov at any time or by calling 1-877-444-6777 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Payment by Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover will be required at the time of the reservation. Recreation.gov allows visitors to create an account at any time to allow them to log on and expedite making reservations in January.

The following are additional changes for the 2021 season:

  • The Great Island Cabin Office will continue to operate on a cashless basis. The office will accept all major credit and debit cards.
  • Off-Road Vehicle, or ORV, Permits are now required for driving on North Core and South Core Banks.  These must be purchased on Recreation.gov prior to arriving on the island. ORV permits will not be available at the cabin office.
  • Sales for ORV permits will open in early February and the park will inform the public near that time.
