Twiddy is winner of School Board race by 48 votes
David Twiddy was has defeated Brandy Foreman by the very narrow margin of just 48 votes after today’s recount of the results in the race for the District 5 seat on the Dare County Board of Education in the March 15 election.
The election night results showed Twiddy with a 53-vote lead. Foreman asked for a recount when the results after the Board of Election canvass on March 22 showed Twiddy’s lead down to 51 votes.
Today’s recount shaved another three votes off his margin. The final count today was 4,484 for Twiddy, the former transportation director for Dare County Schools, and 4,436 for Foreman, a former teacher.
Four board seats were up for election this year. Twiddy and Mary Ellon Ballance of Hatteras village will join the board as new members. Chairman Ben Sproul and vice-chairman Bea Basnight ran unopposed in the March 15 election.
