Dare County Water Department Assures Avon Customers Their Water is Safe for Drinking
The Dare County Water Department is assuring customers in the village of Avon that their water is safe to drink following odor complaints on Sunday evening. The water lines have been flushed, samples taken and the water is safe to drink, according to Utilities Director Ken Flatt. It is possible that the source of the odor was from the interior of the Avon water tower, which was recently painted and placed back into service on April 15. To ensure safety, the Avon water tower was valved off and isolated from the water system as soon as customers first reported the odor on Sunday evening. The Public Water Supply Section of the NC Department of Environmental Quality was notified and no restrictions were needed. Before placing the tank back into service, additional tests will be performed.
