42 receive diplomas at Cape Hatteras Secondary School graduation ….WITH SLIDE SHOW
Forty-two seniors at Cape Hatteras Secondary School of Coastal Studies received diplomas at graduation ceremonies on Saturday evening, June 11.
After a prelude by the Cape Hatteras Secondary School Graduation Band and the traditional processional, “Pomp and Circumstance,” Senior class president Kelsey Lynne Waterfield welcomed the graduates, their families, and guests.
The class valedictorian, Abigail Anna Nelson, and salutatorian, Bradford McCain Dunnagan, each were recognized and made remarks.
Guest speaker was Erin Del Monte, the school’s 2010 Teacher of the Year.
Diplomas were awarded by Principal Jean Taylor, Dare County Schools Superintendent Sue F. Burgess, and Braxton Hall.
A senior medley was presented by Melanie Dambach, Bradford Dunnagan, Joseph Thompson, and Sarah Tokazowski, and closing remarks were by senior Amber Leigh Younce. Caitlin Parsons performed “Swing Life Away.”
Marshals for the graduation included chief marshal Deborah Roughton and Margarety Easley, Robert Easley, Anna Fletcher, Alma Harrison, Gerardo Martinez Escobedo, Michelle Rollinson, and John Cameron Whitaker.
The motto of the Class of 2011 was “Hakuna Matata” with music by Elton John and lyrics by Tim Rice. Class colors were purple, black, and silver. And class sponsors were Elke Schwartz, Darlene Francis, Betsy Gwin, and Suzanne Jennette.
