Ocean Overwash Reported on Pea Island at High Tide
Ocean overwash was reported on Pea Island near the new Captain Richard Etheridge Bridge and by the Pea Island Visitors Center on Monday morning around high tide.
NCDOT reports that ocean overwash will likely happen again in the area, and get may worse at the next high tide tonight, which is at roughly 8:45 p.m. Some standing water was also reported along N.C. Highway 12 on Ocracoke Island, around high tide as well.
Though Highway 12 is currently passable throughout Hatteras and Ocracoke islands, motorists are advised to use caution and to take the evacuation orders seriously. A mandatory evacuation was issued for both residents and visitors on Hatteras Island starting at noon on Monday.
