Plane crashes into Croatan Sound near Manteo Airport
A plane with one person on board crashed into the Croatan Sound near the Dare County Regional Airport (MQI) in Manteo at approximately 4:30 p.m. Monday.
The plane was approximately 50 feet from the approach end of the runway.
The pilot was rescued by first responders and transported by Dare MedFlight to Norfolk, Va., for medical care.
The crash is under investigation by the N.C. Highway Patrol and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
