Ferry schedules may be interrupted by windy, rainy weather
The N.C. Department of Transportation Ferry Division is warning motorists to check ahead if their travel includes the ferries in the next few days.
Windy and rainy conditions brought by a storm off the coast of the Outer Banks may cause a disruption to the ferry schedules in the area — perhaps into the weekend. Already some ferry runs between Ocracoke and Hatteras have been cancelled as water becomes too rough for travel.
It is strongly recommended that travelers call ahead before heading to the ferry terminal.
The telephone number for the Hatteras-Ocracoke ferries is 252 986-2353. For the Ocracoke-Swan Quarter and Ocracoke-Cedar Island ferries, you can call 252 928-1665.
As you leave Ocracoke village heading towards Hatteras Island, there is a NCDOT sign indicating the status of the ferry schedule.
