Coastal Flood Advisory, High Surf Advisory, and Wind Advisory in effect for Saturday
A Coastal Flood Advisory, Wind Advisory, High Surf Advisory, and Gale Warning are in effect through Saturday night due to a passing cold front that may impact the Outer Banks, per an update from the National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City office.
Minor coastal flooding with 1-2 feet of inundation above ground level is possible along the Pamlico Sound from Avon north from Saturday afternoon through Saturday night.
Large and dangerous surf with wave heights up to 10 feet is expected on Saturday and Saturday night, with dangerous conditions for all mariners. A Gale Warning is in effect until midnight on Saturday for all Hatteras and Ocracoke Island waters.
Strong winds, gusting to 45-50 mph along the coast, could blow around loose/unsecured objects and cause some tree damage and a few isolated power outages. A few very fast-moving storms could bring 50-60+ mph wind gusts, resulting in more locally extensive wind damage.
The NC Ferry System’s Swan Quarter to Ocracoke 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. departures are canceled on Saturday due to high winds. The Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry was operating at its normal spring schedule as of 10 a.m. Saturday, but service interruptions are possible. The public can see updates on all three Ocracoke Island routes via the Ferry Division’s Twitter accounts at https://twitter.com/NCFerryHatteras/ and https://twitter.com/ncferrypamsound/, or by calling 252-996-6000 for more information.
