Coastal Flood Watch in effect starting Tuesday; Ocean overwash and soundside flooding possible
A period of gale force-northerly winds is expected from Monday night through Wednesday morning, resulting in a threat for minor to moderate coastal flooding along the Outer Banks, per an update from the National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City office.
Minor to moderate coastal flooding of 2-3 feet above ground level (and localized overwash) is possible from Duck to Ocracoke Inlet, especially around the times of high tide on Wednesday and Thursday mornings. N.C. Highway 12 may be impacted.
Minor sounside flooding will also be possible along areas adjacent to the southern Pamlico Sound, with inundation of 1-2 ft. above ground level forecast.
Wind gusts of 45-50 mph are also expected with this system from Down East Carteret County to the Outer Banks. A Gale Watch and Small Craft Advisory have also been issued for the coastal N.C. area.
