A crash and vehicle fire on Saturday afternoon shut down traffic headed into the Outer Banks via the Wright Memorial Bridge on U.S. 158, while a second crash on the Alligator River Bridge halted traffic on U.S. 64.

Per OBX Today, the first incident occurred around 2:50 p.m., just before the navigation span of the bridge that carries U.S. 158 from Point Harbor to Kitty Hawk. Traffic in both directions resumed at 5:30 p.m., however, lengthy delays are expected to continue due to seasonal Saturday volume.

The Alligator River Bridge wreck occurred around 3 p.m. on the two-lane drawbridge between the Dare County mainland and Tyrrell County. The bridge is expected to open by 6:00 p.m.
