NOVEMBER 2, 1977 – APRIL 16, 2024
On April 16, 2024, Donald Christopher Oden, 46, of Orange Park, Florida, passed away. Born November 2, 1977, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Don was the precious son of Jane Oden and the late Dan Oden, Sr. Don is survived by his partner, Jennifer Rodriguez; his brother, Dan Oden, Jr. (wife April); his nieces, Clara and Alice Oden; and so many friends and family who adored him.
Don attended Fishburne Military School, where he graduated in 1996. He then came home to Hatteras Island where he worked in the family business at the Beachcomber Convenience Store and at the Breakwater Restaurant. Don was a volunteer fireman for the Hatteras Volunteer Fire Department. Later in life, he moved to Orange Park, Florida, where he worked in marine construction and spent time with his best friend, Jennifer.
Don was a true Hatterasman or “Hoi Toider.” He grew up catching waves, exploring the waters of the Pamlico Sound, searching for the perfect catch, picking his nets, duck hunting, clamming, taking beach rides to the inlet, and cooking up his famous seafood chowder. Always giving a welcoming hug or sharing his infectious smile, Don had the most amazing soul. He never lacked in laughter and love. Don was everyone’s pal, and for that, we are forever grateful.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, April 28th at 1 pm at Oden’s Dock.
