UPDATE: Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry has resumed operations
3:10 Update: The Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry has resumed operations as of 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 16.
The Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry has temporarily suspended operations as of Saturday morning, April 16, due to a grounded barge blocking the ferry channel, per a recent update from the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT).
Service will resume as soon as the channel is clear, and the U.S. Coast Guard is currently assessing and responding to the blocked channel. As of 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, there is not an ETA of when Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry operations will restart, but all Swan Quarter and Cedar Island routes to and from Ocracoke Island are running as scheduled.
The public can stay updated on ferry operations and when they resume via Twitter at https://twitter.com/NCFerryHatteras or via the NCDOT’s travel and road conditions website, https://drivenc.gov.
