Ocracoke-mainland ferry operations suspended for Wednesday morning, September 4
The Ocracoke-Cedar Island and Ocracoke-Swan Quarter ferry operations have been suspended for Wednesday morning, September 4, due to high winds, per an update from the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s Ferry Division.
The Ocracoke passenger ferry service is operating as scheduled on Wednesday, and the Hatteras-Ocracoke vehicular ferry is running on a limited schedule because of workforce challenges.
Ferry service will resume once weather conditions improve. Hazardous beach conditions are also forecast for Wednesday throughout Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands, with dangerous shorebreak of 4-6 feet. A Coastal Flood Advisory has been issued from Oregon Inlet to Hatteras Inlet through noon on Wednesday, and a High Risk of Rip Currents is forecast for Wednesday for all of the Outer Banks.
